Do your kids feel overwhelmed?
Are you frustrated by not being able to give them the help they need? Is this affecting the well-being of your family?
Imagine if you had a child who was more interested, more confident and more organised. Impossible? Not with our help.
Statistics in ‘The Australian’ newspaper (June 15th, 2018) stated that nearly 50% of Australian school students feel “very stressed” about meeting academic expectations.
Newport Education Centre exists to equip your child to win at school, catering academically, individually and emotionally for each child. By empowering young people to overcome their own limitations, frustrations and challenges at school, we support them to not just reach their potential, but to feel good about themselves.
Our students want to come to NEC where they know they can ask questions and get help with their current school tasks and problems. We teach them the skills to cope – organisation, study techniques and planning ahead – using methods that work for them. We are a safe place, a haven where your child will thrive.
You will definitely benefit from our nearly 40 years of experience. Second generations of families are coming through our door, proof of the difference we have made in the lives of thousands. We would like to be the support that your child is -maybe silently- asking for.
Call us to discuss your needs.
For us it goes beyond giving every student the opportunity to realise their potential – it’s about believing that every child can feel good about themselves.
It is probably easier to ask ‘who don’t we help?’ as our clientele is wide and varied.
Over nearly 40 years, we have designed individual programs for students with:
Newport Education Centre has over nearly 40 years of experience catering for the individual needs of children at all educational levels. All of our teachers are qualified, caring and experienced. Tuition is either one-to-one or two-to-one, with all children working on their own individual program. This means that they are working on what they need to when they need it, helping students to maintain self confidence by getting school assessments completed and handed in. Our programs are designed according to the individual needs of your child with consideration given to learning styles, strengths and weaknesses and contact with schools provides a more unified approach.

When I was at school I often struggled to learn. Outwardly I was the class clown but inside I felt like I was never going to make it. I lived in fear of others seeing me fail. So, I taught myself to use what I did have – determination and my OCD trait of being fantastically organised. Eventually, after many disappointments, I learned to work with my difficulties, finishing school in all the top classes, even achieving a ‘First’ in my favourite subject!
With this success came a deep and growing passion to become a teacher who could make a difference and share the strategies I had developed. Over more than 40 years and 60.000 hours of teaching and tutoring students of all levels from K -12, I have realised that there is nothing more rewarding than sharing in my students’ own success stories.
Outside of teaching I am a wife and ‘crazy’ mum of two gorgeous, grown up kids, whose individual journeys had their own learning curves of stresses, triumphs, tears and laughter. I love to travel, compete in sports and enjoy the sunshine, beaches and waterways of our beautiful area. I believe that my experiences as a world champion and dual Australian Paddling representative have enhanced what I have to offer to my students in my role as their mentor and friend.
Running a business, teaching, training and being a mum has allowed me to understand the practical difficulties faced by parents and students in the real world. I know the help you need. I hope that you will allow my awesome team to support your child by empowering them to win at school and feel good about themselves.

In our planning and in our teaching, we cater for and work with every child as an individual.

The influence and encouragement of our tutors as mentors reaches far beyond curriculum content to inspire students to reach their potential.

We liaise with parents, schools and other professionals as necessary, to form a collaborative network of support around your child.

We teach your child to plan ahead, to organise their time, and ‘what to do’ when studying. We can include parents in our study sessions.

We provide written reports periodically and are available any time to talk to you about your child’s progress or to make changes to their program.

Sharyn has a Bachelor of Education and Diploma in Teaching from Ku-ring-gai College of Advanced Education (now UTS) and began her teaching in schools in Sydney’s outer west, including Rydalmere East and Auburn North Public Schools.
At the same time she began tutoring from her home and was soon inundated with parents’ requests for help with students who had difficulties that were not being catered for within their own school. From there NEC grew into the busy Centre that it is today, but Sharyn has ensured that the unique caring and individual nature of her business prevails. For over 30 years she has attended countless training seminars, meetings and conferences on the topics of Teaching and Learning, ADHD, Anxiety and the full range of Learning difficulties, and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in these areas.
Sharyn has always had a natural rapport with children of all ages and a passion to assist and motivate them. She believes that given the correct opportunity, every child can reach their potential and can also feel good about themselves.
Sharyn loves sports of all types, particularly paddling in which she still competes. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is more likely to be found running around in the sunshine, than indoors. Her dream is to both make a difference to the world and to see more of it!

Sally majored in English at the University of Sydney and then completed a post graduate Dip Ed.
She embraced the considerable challenge of a teaching load of all Senior English classes in her first few years in the profession, then went on to implement the first HSC Extension English class at that particular school.
Sally has more recently been interested in pursuing a career in counselling, commencing a Master of Counselling in 2018, which had to later be abandoned due to family concerns.
She is passionate about enabling students to make the connection between language and its message and helping them to understand how the manipulation of language affects meaning. She is committed to enabling students to develop their own sufficient mastery of language and appreciation of the skills of the masters of English to make them powerful, sophisticated and, ultimately, exceptionally effective communicators.
Most of all, Sally enjoys skiing with family and friends when pandemics and international travel allow.

Peter has a Master of Teaching in Secondary Education (Mathematics) from the University of Technology Sydney and a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours from the University of Melbourne.

Dorian has a Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from Macquarie University. He has been a tutor since 2020 and has also been employed regularly as a casual teacher at schools on the Northern Beaches. He is passionate about maths, making the complex, simple and enjoys seeing struggling readers improve their literacy skills through explicit instruction.
Helping students reach their potential and fostering positive learning environments have always been Dorian’s main goals. He is enthusiastic and passionate when both teaching and tutoring and he always allows students to work at their own pace. No two individuals think or learn in exactly the same way, and often those who struggle with learning aren’t being taught in a way that is most beneficial to them. From Dorian’s experience, tutoring is beneficial for students as they can learn at their own pace and style, giving them confidence and enthusiasm to learn, thus elevating engagement levels, resulting in improvements in both knowledge and skills.
In his free time, Dorian loves to embark on construction projects. He enjoys building in and around his home, from renovating and painting the kitchen to making and maintaining a veggie patch. He also loves Lego, and he regularly creates new models that he submits online.

As a teaching student, she has gained valuable classroom experience, helping students to grasp challenging concepts and to build confidence.
Mia is passionate about helping young people learn and enjoys seeing students build self-assurance through developing a more complex understanding of texts and their analysis, and expressing themselves effectively in writing for varying purposes.
